The development of child sexuality

The development of child sexuality

Sexuality is a natural property of every human body of any age. It is very important for parents to react correctly to its manifestations so that the child’s development takes place harmoniously.

Sexual development is divided into 5 stages:

1 - from birth to one year

The greatest pleasure of the baby - mother's breast, hugging her hands. Active breast demand and obtaining the desired pleasure develops in the kid a sense of their own safety and well-being. Formed installation "I love", "I am a value."

2 - from a year to two

The kid learns to use the pot with interest. If parents focus attention on failures - they express their discontent and punish the child, then his “I” will remain weak and insecure, which later can give impetus to the development of such qualities as pedantry, stinginess, excessive accuracy, cause mental disorders: enuresis (urinary incontinence ) or encopresis (fecal incontinence).

3 - from two to five years

The kid begins to be interested in the structure of the genital organs, which can manifest itself in peeping at naked adults, playing “doctor” with undressing, or “dad-mum”. However, we must understand that this is a common cognitive interest. Parents who found their children studying each other's intimate places should not be scolded, express anger or indignation - on the contrary, it is necessary to calmly talk to the children. Explain the structure, distinction and purpose of the genitals in an accessible language. You should use their correct names, not “substitutes”. For the proper development of a child, calm intonation is important, the expression on the face of parents when talking on "intimate" topics - they should not be presented in an obscene, "dirty" light. The interest of the child usually does not acquire an unhealthy color and generally disappears if adequately satisfied.

4 - from 6-7 to 11-12 years

The ideal period to study. The child understands social roles, interpersonal relationships, morality. Sexuality fades into the background, the child is interested in more specific practical issues of intersexual relationships, the emergence of a child, the development of his own body, and there is concern about his own appearance. As early as 10-12 years old, children are able to understand the anatomy and the process of conception and development of a child.

“Parents should be as objective and truthful as possible, fairy tales“ about the stork ”are unacceptable - the child still doesn’t know the truth, the only question is who will present it and how, but trust between you will collapse. But you should not devote a child to all the subtleties of the truth “About IT”: the amount of information should be the kind that a child can master. Excess or complexity of information can provoke pathological fantasies and reflections, up to and including trauma to the child’s psyche. If a child sees intimate scenes during this period (TV, movies), and especially the intimacy of parents, they are often perceived as scenes of violence against a woman, which often becomes the basis for the formation of sexual deviations and frigidity in subsequent adult life, ”pediatrician Olga Tretyakova.

5 - from 12-13 to 19 years

Pubertal (from the first ejaculations in boys and the first menstrual periods in girls - until the cessation of body growth) and the postpubertal period (until the onset of full reproductive and psychological maturity).Sensuality develops, awareness of their needs and interests occurs, sexual impulses focus on the genitals: girls develop breasts and vaginal sensuality, and boys increase the frequency of erections and ejaculations. The limits of sexual behavior are expanding: approximately 80% of girls and boys under 16 years old practice petting (caresses that do not turn into sexual intercourse). Teenagers want to know more, and with a lack of information from close people - they turn to any available sources, including erotic publications and pornography. Parents should be especially attentive to the child, tactful, ready to support at any time and help to understand the changes taking place. Instead of stigmatizing this interest as unhealthy, shameful, one should teach a healthy attitude to this facet of life, explain the possible consequences of sex life and responsibility for them.

Considering the issue of child sexuality, parents should understand the main thing: sexuality is part of the natural development of the child. How calmly you yourself will relate to this topicand the well-being of a child in adulthood, his sexual and mental health depends on your readiness to answer a child’s questions and to understand together what is happening to him.
